Rover 820si fast idling

help please. my 820si has just started to idle or tickover at 2000 revs, is there a way I can adjust this. If it was a carb I know how to do them but this is injection and I have not done any work on these before

If a carb car started idling at 2000 rpm, it wouldn't be just a case of adjustment.

This is a fault, not a service adjustment. Most likely problem is an air leak. Fix that and idle will return to normal.

If it is Lucas "hotwire" injected car (ie one made around 1990) it is usually caused by either a sticking stepper motor valve or mal-adjustment of the base idele speed or a combination of both.

Setting the base idle speed too SLOW causes erratic fast idling and cutting out durring parking manouvers. The thermostat should also be checked and replaced with the correct type which should be a 88 or 91 degree c type not 83c as listed by Halfords and others. The engine oil should also be 10w/40 or thinner using 20w/50 cause idling problems.
