Saxo 1.1 - hesitant/stuttering on light throttle opening

We just got a Saxo 1.1 - 2001 - 87k miles, drives really well apart from one issue. When trying to hold a constant speed with just a touch of the throttle applied, there is a hesitancy/judder - which is cleared if you either ease right off or apply more throttle.

I have booked the car in for a thorough service (as it has no history for the last 50k miles) and would like to have some ideas of what might cause this problem beforehand.

Thanks

Knackered plugs caused by lack of servicing. Knackered sparkplug leads caused by knackered plugs caused by lack of servicing.

Or blown headgasket or other fault causing low compression in that cylinder.

You're welcome. If it starts doing it again in the next few thousand miles, change the plug leads as worn plugs mean the leads have to carry more current and the insulation can break down on them.
