Should a buy a peugeot??

I currently drive a ford KA 2 T reg and I am looking to get something else around the £7000 mark.

I really like the look of the 206 and was wondering if I buy one, which model should I go for?

I am currently looking at the 1.4 GLX model with an 02/03 plate as they are around £7000 but since there are so many other models around (LX, Look, Quicksilver etc) it is hard to know what model to look for!

I am not too bothered about the incar sound system as I will be installing my own existing head unit, cd changer & sub but I do like other nice little features i.e. heated windows, lots of gadgets etc!

So, what model should I be looking for or should I go for the GLX?

I've also heard that Peugeots have lots and lots of constant problems and I have seen mixed reviews on websites but I suppose that is the same with most cars....

I would prefer the following type:

Hatchback, 3 door.

1.4 (no more than that as my insurance goes up too much!) Around an 02/03 plate. Not a GTi!!! although they are nice!

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Moo

Pug 206 : The most unpleasant gearbox I've _ever_ used. The syncromesh-less= =20 tractor box I used on a Massey Ferguson 1950's (IIRC) tractor was more=20 pleasant.

If you have "big" feet (I'm size 9.5, but about I width fitting), or wear= =20 trainers/boots, the pedals will be too close together, and your feet will= =20 knock each other and the adjacent pedals whenever you have to press any=20 pedals.

It's French.

I don't see what's _that_ wrong with your Ka.

Unless you _really_ need a car as small as a 206, =A37k will get you an awf= ul=20 lot of car. There are >50 Ford Focuses (as an example) within 50 miles of= =20 me, between 6 and 7k.

2000 FORD Focus 2.0 ESP , 2000, X reg. 40000 miles, Metallic Black, 2 owners from new, SH, EW, AC, 17= =20 alloys, original condition, taxed and MOTd till December. =A36,000 . ono.= =20

Like I said, unless you _really_ wanted a car that small, or had your heart= =20 set on a 206, there are better cars out there IMO.

syncromesh-less

I've driven one before and it was okay but I suppose a test drive would determine that.

I'm bored with it. I've had it since new from 1999 and just want something different.

But they look so cool! At the hotel I work I have been looking around at the cars to see what type I like the look of and there is not much! The 206 stands out to me. On top of that I like the smaller cars, they are cheaper to insure, cheaper to run etc.

The Ford Focus is a great car but just doesn't look right, there really is nothing there that says to be 'look at me! Buy me!!' and the Pug 206 does that for me... Maybe it is just Ford in general...

But of course I don't want to waste my money on a crap car just because it looks cool...

Can you suggest anything else that would suit my needs for my price range?

Dunno - just looks too much like Heart of Gold[1]. All styling and bling.

[1] Which you will remember looked like a running shoe, or "trainer" as you youngsters would call it.

Don't look for the model type, look at what is bolted on to it. There are so many options that you can have fitted.

Sound system on a GLX is good. Radio RDS cassette with 6 CD auto changer in the boot.

Again look at what options are fitted. Picked up a 51 plate GLX with no ABS :( but with climate. The GLX should come with leccy windows, heated and electric mirrors. Again, check the specs as the add ons can change the base GLX model.

They are French. Everyone hates them They will break down and make you cry :). Go to Portugal, they use the base 206 as a hire care and they are indestructible.

Avoid like the plague the 1.2. Gutless. 1.4 has multi point injection and is a basket case to drive. You will have to fight it cross winds but much fun. First gear is a pain until you get used to it and you have to time your gear changes for good acceleration.

Loads of fun and a good economical car to drive round the town.

Pretty comfortable as well. Don't let people put you off. 2 up we did Cabanas to Lisbon in one and back in a day and still felt fresh (over 600 miles that day last year). Not sure if it was the car being comfortable or trying to avoid the Spanish & Portuguese drivers and the GNR all in that order.

Go to a Pug dealer and ask for a test drive. I am sold on mine and do enjoy it, though the Mondeo was better in cross winds (and I thought I would never let it go) the 206 is more fun.

Go for it and see what you think.

It doesn't bother me which country the car comes from as long as it is safe!

I'll go along to the dealer this weekend and see what they have to offer..

That's a hell of a lot of money to part with for a 4 year old Ford.

Oooh, what's Cabanas like these days - went there about 5 years ago, and have just booked a week there this October. Is it still as cheap as it was? - we were paying 60p for a 1/2 litre beer last time we went :-)

Just got to sort out the motorbike hire now.

Yes. Yes you should. Everyone that says no is wrong.

206's look nice, have nice interiors that seem pretty tough, have no more horror stories than every other small car out there. You may find the pedals too close together, mind you, i've driven the 1.9D, 1.4, GTi and GTi 180 and i never had a problem with size 10 skate shoes...

GTi 180 is AWESOME by the way :)

For some reason, Focuses always seem to hold their value really well. A=20 Mondeo of the same age & spec would probably be a lot less than that.

Nothing particularly. Yup, it's had a few problems but they were generally on the first models produced.

Take one for a test drive and see what you think of it. You'll either like it or hate it.

Peugeot can't even be bothered to set up the wipers correctly for RHD on the

206, which leaves a big blind spot on the upper right of the screen. I notice that in their advert photos, this fact is cleverly concealed.
