Slight problem with my car

Hi there,

Hope this is the right group...

I have a "H Reg - 1991" Citroen AX10E Jazz 3 Door Hatchback. Ever since Tuesday morning, the reverse light is on all the time even when I'm driving in 4th gear!

Any idea on how to sort this problem out?

Thanks in advance...

Thanks, I was thinking about that... I'll do that later if it stops raining!

Sounds like the reversing light switch on the gearbox may have given up the ghost...

I guess that would be an MOT failure.. But would it actually be illegal?

Different car, but i took mine out and gave it a good clean popped it back in again and it is still working now 50k later.

Not an MOT fail, so I'm guessing not illegal either.

(looked it up when mine weren't working..)

cheers, clive

Never mind. You'll get over it one day.

I shall provide answers in a schizophrenic style:

Not-so-useful: Take the bulb out.

Potentially useful: It could be a dodgy connection/earth to do with either something near the light cluster, or the switch itself, which is attached to the gearbox.

Yes. White light to the rear when in forward motion.

Gearbox reverse switch is oh-so high tech!! Twist half turn and remove ... clean in oil, screw back in.

.... Look for two black wires going to a thing not far away from the clutch lever ON TOP of the gearbox!!

I can't say for sure, but when I had my 2CV it didn't even have reversing lights, and that got through 2 MOTs while I had it. Unless there's a rule that means they're allowed to ignore them if the car was never built with them.
