Source for VW internal bits and pieces?

Hi all, got a Passat with heated electric wing mirrors. I`ve managed to snap the top off the little joystick that controls the mirrors, and am looking for a decent source online. I`d rather avoid a scrap yard unless the price difference is huge, as I don`t want to be messing about taking door panels off :-)

Anyone know of a good supplier likely to have one in?

Thanks!

If you have a part number or not go along to a VW dealer and ask them what they want for one sometimes they will suprise you and it will be easier and cheaper than hunting around for one.

I've just had a look on ebay :) and found a few :

looks alright to me if it fits in with the year of your car, £21.49 delivered. I can also vouch for the guy as I have bought a few bits of him last year. Hes quite well known on some uk vw forums as well.

Aswell as that Simon check out a few of these

Surely if you have to replace the joystick you are going to be messing about anyway. Getting one from a scrappy allows you to do a dress rehersal for dismantling and refitting.

That`s the link I was just about to post :-) i`ve got a kit to install under that door panel to allow me to open/close the windows using my remote alarm fob. I figure that while the panel is off I may as well fix the niggling problem :-)

That site goes straight to ebay :-) I`m guessing I bought those grilles from you in the past, correct? If so please email me and I`ll get in touch. If I`m buying from you there are a few other bits I`m thinking about getting, I need to get a list together and if you email me it`ll remind me. Got a memory like a sieve at the moment :-)

Cheers for those links. I had a quick look on ebay, but I dislike bidding to be honest, i`d rather pay a set price and have it in my hand quicker :-)

Kit?

I thought you had a B5 Passat? - you don't need a kit for that, you need VAG-COM, or to find a specialist with VAG-COM, 'cos that's a feature that can be activated in the software. To be honest, I thought it was active as standard. It was on mine, anyway.

It`s a B5.5 passat, and BUGGER! :-) It`s certainly not active on mine as I have tried. Does the one that you can get through VAG-Com let you vent the windows (i.e. get them to open an inch or so)? Just curious, as I have the thing here to install. If I can get it done on VAG-COM it`d be worth thinking about buying the full version, for the sake of this alone. :-)

Not too sure about that just opening an inch or so, but there are loads of settings to tweak in the ECU. Might be worth looking at the PassatWorld forum.

I'm kind of tempted to get VAG-COM myself - although I'm sure that tweaking things on a company car would be frowned upon.

The problem is that it`s about £130, including the cable, which is quite a bit of money. How easy is it (do you know) to use it to do things like change the window abilities? I`ve got the shareware version and a USB cable, but it`s not registered. Any good links for a site to give me an iditos guide? :-)

The would never know, just be discreet about it :)

Hmmmm, I'm sure something would come up when the VW dealer hooked it up to their machine, though.

Given that VW own the lease company, I'm not sure I'd want to risk doing too much with it, anyway.

Actually it wouldn't :) ... some VW's funny enough come with things like this enabled some don't. I have no idea why.

That's one of vag-coms plus points, it uses the last dealers machines codes & pretends it's them....

Its quite simple to use really and worth every penny. Its paid for itself already with code resetting fault finding etc. The procedure for auto windows is very simple. Heres the makers of it

has every thing you could possibly want to know. Make a cuppa before you start reading as theres tons of stuff there. Support is good to even if its not a registered version you have they at their discretion may answer you. But TBH most of what you will need is in the FAQ guides.
