Speedometer reset

My wife's car a VW Golf Mrk 3, year 92 recently needed a new Speedometer that I got from the scrapYard and installed for her.

The replacement works just fine, except that the Electronic Mileage it shows is 121 K while my wife's car had only done 58K.

Is there any thing I can do to reset the digits back to what it should be without paying the BIG Guys an arm and a leg for It ?

I already have VAG-Com Software on my laptop that I use on our cars, any tricks I could use there ?

There are plenty of wide-boys advertising in the back of the Exchange & Mart that they can "re-calibrate" this type of speedo. I suggest you engage one of them to do the job if you're not confident.

don't know how much they charge but if it's more than £100 then it's expensive.

Given it takes 30 seconds to adjust one! Open bonnet (or panel where connector's located), plug in PC running software, adjust, replace panel/close bonnet.

yes but you can't do it yourself, and what value is it to you? To most of the people they perform this service for, £100 is great value.

Then write the software to do the job, and pass it on for free to everyone.

they charged £50 for a car that age. With my vw golf you can not modify the mileage via the diagnostic port. The cluster had to be taken out and programmed.
