Stag brakes problem

Hi

Yesterday I was driving the Stag and after about 20 miles there was a smell after using the brakes at junctions and roundabouts.Towards the end of the journey there was a gradual decline in the braking performance and I needed to push the brake pedal much further down than usual and it didn't feel very good even then. I then parked the car up and left it for an hour, started up and brakes were good for the rest of the 30 mile journey. I have checked the fluid level and the front pads were changed only 3000 miles ago. Does this sound like brake master cylinder problems? The car has only done about 80 miles this year.

Thanks to any replies

Jon

your symptoms could all be caused by one sticking on brake, (probably a front one), this overheats the brake fluid which gives you a spongy pedal.

from your description I would look at: first change the fluid and check/rebuild the calipers, then change the flexibles, master cylinder last (as this would be unlikely to recover after a rest).

Or handbrake. My brother had that on a Fiesta. The top spring that holds the shoes off the drum had failed so the shoe wasn't being released after braking. Brake got hot which boiled the fliud and ended up with no braking. Left until they cooled and it was OK again.

But before all that, go for a drive then feel the wheels to see if any are getting hot.
