Sterio "Beeping" since engine warning light came on

On my 2001 ex-police vauxhall vectra 2.2 petrol the engine warning light came on for a few weeks then when off. About half way through this time I started getting a beep through the stereo. It is clearly intentional, as the music stops for a fraction of a second, it beeps, and then the music carries on after another fraction of a second. It does this every 30 secs - minute. I assume it is due to the engine warning light. Does anyone know how to stop this?

I am not worried about the engine warning light as such, I was advised it was the air flow meter, and that it would cost ~150 GBP to get a new one. As that is more than half the value of the car and I was advised that it is unlikely to be terminal I left it, and the light eventually went away. The fuel consumption has not increased measurably. The beep is incredibly irritating, I cannot stand to have the stereo on at all.

Thanks for any help.

It's a hidden tracking device that the stereo is picking up.;-)
