Strange noise from Brake - HELPPPP

Can anybody shed some light on this:

Rover Metro (P Plate - 1.1), after 10 mins or so when things have warmed up, there is a constant noise, squeel, racket, rubbing (my brothers car so his words !) from the front.

When the slightest pressure is applied to brakes, it goes. It gets slightly worse arounf left hand bends, and slightly better (still there thought !) on RH bends.

If car left to cool for 15mins, it goes away, but then comes back ! Interestingly, he tried driving on the gears to slow down (so as not to use brakes) and the noise NEVER appeared.

Any ideas ???

Thanks in advance.

The brakes should be inspected, but there are several possibilities.

Number one on Metro funny noises from the front end is the drive shaft end nut, these work loose and the shaft squeaks, this is particularly so if you have the type with a taper washer under the nut (all models? or only early ones?) The pads may have some grit stuck in them or need the edge tapering off, the pad may be breaking up or stuck in the caliper, the disk may be worn giving an edge which is sticking out and touching the edge of the pad or it may just be one of those things. An inspection, and rebuild may cure the fault or at least disclose the problem. Also worth checking is that there isn't a loose wheeltrim making a noise, try running without trims if fitted.

Had new pads recently?

If so check that the shims were put in, and preferably also had some copper grease put on them.
