The fuses on a Ford Ka!

Hello to you all,

Hopefully someone can help witha problem with our Ford Ka. For a long time, the radio has a 'ticking' noise in the background all the time, and is time with the revs. So, i figured there must be something wrong with a wire grounding somewhere. I removed the radio, and checked to see which were power cables with my multimeter, then tried to trace them to therir origin and start trying to find a grounding problem. However, stupid clumsy get that i am, the lead from the multimeter strayed across what i can only imagine is a terminal block a cd multi-changer, and the radio went off. I then looked for the fuse to replace, but could only find a block of 11 fuses under the steering wheel. This diagram does not coincide with what's the manual. So to cut along story short: where the hell is fuse for the radio. And if i can get the radio to work, does anyone know how to the 'ticking'?!

Thanks so much,

TJ

Can't help with the location of the fuse but ticking with a car radio is usally insufficient suppression of the ignition system. Try new leads (if it has them). HTH.

As an update, managed to find the fuse, sorted that. Just needed to open my eyes a bit more! Thanks for the reply, when you say 'insufficient suppression of the ignition system' can you eloborate slightly? I think i know wht you mean, but not sure how to go about it.

Many thanks again for the reply!

Essentially, the speakers / radio / some funkiness in here is picking up the high voltage from the engine / ignition leads.

It (and you) can hear the sparks...

If the leads are el cheapo you may be getting interference. I'd recommend OEM Ford units, aftermarket leads don't tend to last so long on the Ka probably owing to high underbonnet temperatures.
