Tow bar - Fiat Marea

I'm looking to fit a caravan tow bar (twin plug) to my 2000 Fiat Marea

115 ELX saloon. They seem to be extremely expensive. I've been quoted £290. Another fitter suggested I should snatch their hand off as Mareas were a bastard for tow bar fitting.

How come? Polite replies only please :)

It's a typical price for fitting a towbar. Modern cars have multiplexed wiring, so it's not as simple as just Scotchlocking cables into the boot like it used to be, as that can cause a lot of problems with diagnostic systems. In addition, it's increasingly difficult to remove and replace trim to lay in cables to the front of the car.

I paid over £300 three years ago to have a bracket fitted to a 4Runner, by a local towbar specialist. The bracket itself was not expensive and pretty easy to fit; it's the wiring that is expensive.

Thanks for that, I'm much reassured. I've snatched the hand off the local fitter, he seems to be OK.
