Vauxhall Astra - Coolant issue?

Hi!

I would like some opinions on this 'problem' I have.

I own an N-reg Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Merit. I've started to notice this 'running water' noise from the engine. After some investigation, I noticed it was due to water coming through the overflow pipe from the top of the radiator into the expansion tank. This, to me, looks like something has blocked in the coolant system, possibly inside the radiator. However, the engine temperature is just at its normal level, so it's not serious...yet.

Is this normal for this car, or should I get it seen to? Cheers, aiw_2000

Water flow through the pipe back into the header tank is normal when the engine is running. More concerning is the running water noise on start-up, which is due to lack of coolant in some parts of the system on start-up. Make sure that the coolant level is up to the correct level on the header tank (when engine is cold). If not, then check for leaks.

Anthony,

Thanks for the info, and for putting me at ease. The water level is fine in the header tank, so it should be ok. It's something that's probably always been there, but I've only just noticed it!

Cheers, Alwyn

start-up.
