VAUXHALL CAVALIER 1.7TD ISUZU alternator

The alternator went on my car. the rev counter went really up then down. the seat belt light came on before that. the the battery light and the servo light came on.the bttery was completely drained. i changed the alternator and the battery as we found it was overcharging. however the battery light and the servo light still comes on, but the radio does not come on any more. Do i need new relays if so which one and where precisely is it located or is there some other electrical problem? please advise.

If it is an earlier model with a four wire plus charge lead alternator then it has a charging light relay, these often burn out in the light on position if you have an alternator fault. Likely relay position is behind the kick panel by drivers foot on an astra, so yours maybe the same. Also, some non genuine alternators do not work with early cars that have four wire connection, yet the two wire conversion lead works fine, but the car needs rewiring!!

As you may be able to tell, I have just wasted some time with one of these! (actually a combo diesel isuzu)
