Vauxhall Corsa (2000); Key cutting/coding...

I've bought a Corsa (2000 model) for my daughter. It came with one key.

When I went to get it cut, the key place said it was a coded immobiliser key and they couldn't do anything apart from copy the key blank.

I've looked at the key and there's an evident crack in it... sooner or later it's going to go.

A short search suggests that Vauxhall will want 45 quid or so to code a new key to the car. Plus 35 or so for the key. Additionally I seem to need a security card with the key code written on it- I don't think I've got this...

What are my options:

If I get a key cut and put this on the same key fob as the existing key will this work, or is the alignment of the key 'head' important?

Can the key blades be removed from the plastic and replaced without damaging the immobiliser chip?

Anyone know anyone independent in the SouthWest who can help?

Thanks in advance for any useful (or amusing) responses.

Not from the showroom though...

The usual advice is to try to find a local specialist locksmith, as they often have the facilities to code keys at lower cost than a dealer.

The AA often use them when dealing with members who have lost their keys. Perhaps an approach to a local patrol might result in a tip-off as to who they use?

You must have the key code or the car pass That can be made from your local dealer. That has to do with the immo code

As for the key according to your chassis number i can give you more details None locksmith is able to put the immo code since you will need the TECH2 to do that
