vauxhall made me feel insulted :(

vauxhall made me feel insulted :(

just been to the local dealer for a new key,,,,, £80 i also told them that i had a error code p0141 on the car and can they give me a price to fix it, the bloke said that he do not know what that means, and they need to run a check test on the car to find out what the codes are at £42.50. i told him that it is a lamba sensor, he then said that p0141 could also be for the o2 sensor/meter on the inlet.(((either he knows or dont))) they wont change the lamba until i have the check test done just incase it is not the lamba and it is the o2 sensor/meter.

now i have lost my trust in them and will get wilco to change it. at the same time i will have the front tyres changed.

Vauxhall,,, you have just lost around £200,,,,,

And what happens if they had fitted the part you asked for, yet the fault was not fixed? You would be complaining like merry hell. Really garages can't win, can they?

Either diy or take it to a garage. Not a bit of each.

yes fine . but as i said he either knows or he do not. he never looked it up whilst i was there. i know the code. he just made me feel as though they want the extra £42.50 for 5 minutes work. besides the p0141 is for the lamba behind the cat converter.

the 02 meter on the inlet is a completly differant number

sometimes a fault code is generated that is actually caused by another component. Such as: knock sensor can be caused by crap petrol, lambda can be caused by excess oil, etc. changing those components will not fix the fault and the light will come on again. If the dealer tells you what is wrong and changes the wrong or unneeded bit then you do at least have some redress. That is why they have to charge you, so as to cover things when it does go wrong.

of course they want £42.50 for 5 minutes ( longer then 5 minutes i might add ), thats thier rate, you have a choice to accept it or not, it doesn't matter if its 5 minutes or 1 hour, I don't think you realise how much investment is made regarding diagnostic equipment, I work for an independent garage and we charge £38.00 just to plug the car on the system to download fault codes. he was possibly fully aware what the code was, but how happy would you have been had he replaced the sensor on just your say so, to find out that wasn't the problem ? at least when its plugged onto the diagnostic machine you can have a print out & it would have been their diagnoses & then your decision to have the work done or not, more then often though you will find one fault masking another.

if you were 100% certain that was the fault why not change the sensor yourself ?

But what's wrong with the OP just going to them and saying "Change the sensor please" and them doing the work? He's the one that is paying them so should be able to say to them exactly what work he wants done and what he doesn't.

Of course if the work he wanted done doesn't solve the fault then that's not the garages problem.

its fixed now, i took it to wilco`s this morning and asked them to change it, and it only cost £60 including fitting and vat. thats about £50 cheaper than vauxhall.

Unfortunately, that is not the attitude some customers take. I have seen this first hand plus many stories via the trade.

Sounds like you need a nice clear legal disclaimer they have to sign first - should make them think.

02 meter on the INLET? Or the pre-cat 02 as opposed to the post-cat, both of which are found in the exhaust?

Agree, we have spent in the region of =C2=A34500 on diagnostic equip to verify the act= ual faults, not what is assumed. It has to be returned somehow. =

Must agree though main dealer service is pretty crap these days accross all manufact= ures, until of course your paying =C2=A3100-00 ph for merc or BMW then you dont give a m= onkies cause you can afford it!!
