Vauxhall people please help !!

Hi, I have had an annoying noise coming from the dash for a while on the Zaf (1999 1.8) and decided to have a look today, found the problem to be right at the bottom of the heater system in the middle of the car is what looks like a motor with pipes going into it, I think its what controls the temp in the cabin as the noise changes pitch when you select different temps. Question is how do you replace that motor (if it is a motor) whats it called? Is it DIY able?

Thanks in advance

It's more likely to be a solenoid. Not sure how hard it'll be to change, but if I get time, I'll check on TIS at work later.

Nice one, many thanks. it's on its own at the very bottom centre of the heater arrangement with a couple of pipes going into it,

Had a look at TIS last night. The Coolant Cut-Off Valve (fitted with air-con equipped motors only), is attached to the end of the heater matrix, and is a kind of H shape, with two pipes coming in from bulkhead, and then two connecting onto the matrix with a join between them. Does that sound right? If not, I'll have another look on monday (only got a chance to have a quick look through the options last night), there must be another option fitted to non-air-con motors.

In that case, you need to disconnect the two pipes at the bulkhead (engine side), then remove the centre console. There's then two support bars either side of the heater box, and you can gain access to the heater matrix from there. I think the instructions said to remove the complete heater matrix, and then change the valve on the bench, which is probably wise, as the valve is held on with snap on couplings (ie. removal will probably involve lots of expletives!). Instructions also advised replacing the o-rings in any couplings you disconnect.

Doesn't seem like to big a job, but I never got round to checking the book time for doing it.

nice one, thanks. Sounds like a right PIA to me I'm afraid !! and would probably cost a small fortune in a garage !! I might live with the noise - and upgrade the speakers !!
