Vectra C Control Indicator for engine electronics

Hi When driving the car sometimes the Control Indicator for engine electronics comes on, this is the picture of a car with a spanner in the dashboard. When it lights up the car sort of stutters for a split second then drives normally but with reduced power, ie. accelerates more slowly. When the light is not on the car drives perfectly. If I turn ignition off then restart the car it goes out, it does this everytime, I now just turn ignition off and on quickly when on a straight road without stopping to remedy this. It mostly comes on when trying to accelerate past moving vehicles but not all the time. It may do it a couple off times in a day then not for a week or more. When it was lit I put a fault reader on the car ( OBDII) which reported no faults. Can anyone please shed any light on what could be wrong and how to remedy this. Would it be worth taking to Vauxhall garage or would they find nothing wrong if it wasn't showing a fault at the time. Regards Pete

it is quite likely a sensor starting to break down, such as the tdc sensor (very common and cheap on vauxhalls) reading live data will show the fault. if it was mine I would change the tdc sensor and see if the problem goes away.

Hi Where will I find the TDC sensor? Someone suggested a sensor that is situated in the engine somewhere near the front wheel, is this the TDC sensor? Regards Pete

it does depend upon which engine you have but mostly the tdc sensor is at the flywheel end of the engine, on the front or the back, secured with one small bolt, it just goes straight into the crankcase.

Hi I believe its the camshaft regulator I was asking about. Would or could this be causing the problem. Does anyone know roughly the cost of taking it to a vauxhall garage and getting it diagnosed. Regards Pete

There is also a camshaft position sensor and those are at the wheel end of the engine. A garage would likely charge about 60 quid for diagnosis.
