Vectra Electric Door Lock Problem..

Hi,

I'm hoping that you guys can perform another miracle..

I lent my Vectra Estate to friend to use whilst his was being fixed - and he has brought it back with the electric locks on both os doors apparently doing nowt.

They just stay locked or unlocked when the keyfob buttons are pressed. The ns qork fine. Turning the key in the driver's door does cause the ns doors to lock and unlock - but not the os rear door.

IIUC, all the lock motors are on a common circuit - so it isn't the control box. Could it really be two lock motors have failed simultaneously - or could it be a wiring break?

I've got the trim off the driver's door and can see the plug going to the lock assembly - but how do I get the assembly out? Is there a way of testing it in situ?

I'm worried that, if I start undoing screws, bits will drop down into the door cavity..

Possibly. Inside the wiring boot at the door hinge, or simply a bad connection.

Might help if you gave the year.

A Haynes book might help with checking and dismantling.. Mike.

The driver's door has a big socket that the wiring loom plugs into. I've tried taking that off and putting it back on. The rear door is just a wiring loom brdiging the gap.

But I can't see how one break or bad connection here would affect both doors - unless the loom goes into the driver's door and back out again.

It's a '99 estate.

It probably would. ;). But I was rather hoping someone here would say something along the lines of, "Nah, door lock motors last forever - it must be the loom", or "Yep, door lock motors fail all the time"..

Or had a pinout of the big plug/socket at the door, so I could do a few electrical measurements and maybe stick 12v on the right pins and see if the lock operates.

I'm not that conversant with door lock wiring, but logic suggest that there must be wiring going in and out of the drivers door. At minimum a feed going in, with feeds going out to all the other doors. A break in the wiring between the drivers door and the o/s rear door would gives the result you're getting.

The failure of the buttons on the key could be something else. Could the battery need replacing? Might help if your friend could tell you whether it stopped working at the same time as the locks.

Put it this way. Just a guess, but I think it far more likely to be a wiring fault than simultaneous double lock failure. Haaving said that, maybe the drivers lock can partially fail so it doesn't operate all the locks.

I can't see you can do very much in the way of circuit checking without a circuit diagram. Buy a Haynes. The shops are still open. You know you need one. :-) Mike.

As Mike's said, find a wiring diagram if possible.

I can't remember where the central locking control modules are on the old vectra, but with two locks failing at once, it's more likely to be a wiring fault.

Easiest way to check without access to a wiring diagram, is to see if you're getting power on any of the pins to the motors in the o/s doors. If need be, strip a n/s door and check to see what pins you should be getting power on.
