Hi all,
I've seen several posts about Golfs having the same exact problem: engine cuts out as you slow down (e.g. at a T-junction). We took my wife's car (N-reg i.e. 1997-8, petrol, 1.4? not sure) to a VW dealer who did diagnostics and came up with 3 things that "have to be done":
- Lambda sensor needs replacing, and that's probably the root of the problem
- Throttle body needs clean, and he said it might need to be replaced
- Pre-heat pipe (?) also needs fixing
Quote for all this to be done is =A3300, with another =A3300+VAT for new throttle body.
Are they ripping us off? From the other posts I gather that cleaning the throttle body is the best move (people say it's very easy but I know v. little about cars and not sure if I should try doing it myself). How much should that cost on its own if I get it done elsewhere? Is it a good idea to let them do the other stuff as well?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Constantinos
