I have just tried to lower the wheel underneath my sharan with the weird and wonderful wire lowering system and it started to go very stiff i then hastily tried to wind it up and it kammed.Managed to get the wheel off and removed this winch mechanism but it has visible way in,Is this a chuck away item or is repair poss. Car just out of guarantee of course but this has only been used once before for tyre checking. Any ideas??

Drop the winch mechanism in a bucket of oil overnight, then try again. Also try just moving it a tiny amount at a time, forwards,backwards forwards backwards until it frees off.
