Weird car in the sunshine problem

I've been asked to post this about a Rover model 75 '260', V8 engine. When the rear end of the car is left in the sun and the body is hot to the touch, the car will then not start for half an hour or so until it has cooled down. But it then it runs fine.

This only happens if the rear of the car gets hot. And will only start again if the body gets to cool down. He's had a few people look at it and diagnostics run, but no-one can sort it. Any ideas please?

Could well be fuel evaporation causing a vapour lock. It's unlikely this model was very well developed.

You could try rigging up a separate electrical feed to the fuel pump and running it for a couple of minutes before attempting a start. Circulating the fuel gets rid of airlocks and cools things down. My SD1 EFI suffers from this if parked up with the engine hot on a hot day - and that works on it.

last time this came up I asked a friend in the trade and he immediately said to replace the fuel filter, apparantly it needs to be changed every year or you get this problem. Worth a try for relatively little cost.
