Wheel hubs/bearings/knuckles?

Recently had a problem with my Kia Sedona. Wheel bearing needed replacing...

Garage at the time (I was away on holidays) managed to do it but said hub was also worn and needed replacing soon. They'd been able to refit the bearing but if I didnt sort it out then it would wear again.

Spoke to Kia and they think garage might have meant knuckle rather than hub. Confused now. Can someone explain please?

they probably meant the bit that goes through the middle of the bearing that the wheel attaches to.

Odd, every car I've had in the last fifteen years it has been easier to replace the entire hub and bearing assembly than to bother with a new bearing. Costs slightly more for the part but should save on labour since it's simple to unbolt the hub and replace with a new one.

What happened was I broke down over the bank holiday when away in Cornwall...

RAC found a garage who could get hold of the wheel bearing. They fitted it but at the time told me that they would have liked to have changed the 'hub' too since it was badly worn but they couldnt get hold of that part at short notice.

Apparently, on my car, 2003 Kia Sedona, the hub and bearings are separate but on later models they come as one unit. However, Im confused as to whether I need to change my hub (the bit with the wheel bolts on) or the knuckle ?

If they said hub, I expect they meant hub. If the bearing was *really* knackered the outer race may have started moving in the hub, which will cause wear. Too late now, but Loctite "bearing fit" will often let you get away with a new bearing in a damaged housing.
