Which Way for Chamfered Brake Pads

Got new brake pads from Nissan. One of the edges is chamfered. Should the chamfered edge be on the leading edge facing the front of the vehicle, or the rear?

I would imagine front.

Any ideaS?

the chamfer should be at the leading edge to reduce grabbing and squeal, so turn the wheel hub in its normal direction and get the chamfer set so that the disc turns through that bit first.

Haha, yes, of course, chamfer should be at the back. Doh. That's the normal wheel rotation.

Surely the chamfer is at the back on the upper pad, and at the front on the lower pad, in other words the leading edge in each case. :-)

This assumes that the pads are one above t'other, I can't remember and mine are discs all round.

it is usual to refer to 'pads' for discs and 'shoes' for drums

Lower pad?

Lower shoe, I meant.

Fortunately after taking the front wheels off, there's still about half the pad material left. Decided not to change the pads just yet.

Might change them next year.

It won't matter till next year but cleaning the sliders once you've taken the wheel off is generally worth it.
