WYNALL herculeis charger

i have one of these chargers that has been a very good charger until i lent it to some one else for a while, when i got it back the amp meter was broken, so i bought a new amp meter & removed the cover to replace it. i found it had a shunt resister at the back of the amp meter but it was only connected at one end to one terminal of the amp meter & i would like to know if both ends of the resister should be connected across both terminals of the meter because i can not see anything close to the meter that the other end of the resister would connect to but i do not want to connect it & blow it up or wreck another amp meter. HELP.

The shunt should go directly across the meter. I.e. one end of the shunt to each of the meter terminals.

If you have been running the charger without a shunt connected you may well have destroyed the meter.

Many thanks for the information & help, that is what i thought it should be as i could not see it reaching any where else & i could not find any other wires that it might have connected to but was not sure so as i was not sure i thought the best thing to do is to ask someone that knows, many thanks, Brian (Fodenman) & no it has not been tried without it being connected.
