95 m-ed...tired motor

hi,

the old girl has a tired motor at 113k miles. she has a jr/sc w/ at least 87k. the head was done at ~90k.

i was thinking of a monster job bu at the realistic cost of $10k, that is not going to happen. so

i would like at least the pep she had before and the options i was considering are:

OPTION A (cost $2500 - 3000 ?)

- bring the short block to the machine shop

- send the sc to keith

- maybe install an air cooler of some short, (not sure what is available)

OPTION B (cost $1500 - 2000 ?)

- get "good" low mile motor

- send the sc to keith

- maybe install an air cooler of some short, (not sure what is available)

thought? suggestions?

Options are anything you want to pay for-- used but good motor to custom rebuild from various sources. Used good motors are getting harder to find, but are still out there.

sounds like you probably already know this... but a new set of ignition wires does wonders to engine performance. when was the last time you changed them?

tune-up are performed on a regular schedule...she's tired 'cause of smoky rings upon acceleration. rings are cheap but the labour/time to install... :)

Sounds to me like another effect of the sub par air filter in the JR SC kit, frankly.

Not always.

That too. :)

That was my first thought as well, Leon. (My second was that you were sure to post, given your personal experience.)

Same as most Miata problems, open the trunk, pack it tightly with 20 dollar bills and drive it to your Mazda dealer. You'll get the car fixed and the trunk emptied.

See how easy these things are? ;-)
