B2200 crankshaft seal

Has anyone ever replaced a front crankshaft seal? Is it difficult? How long does it take?

It is not that difficult for a mechanic but might be tricky depending on your level of skill and technical savvy. The timing belt will need to be removed and re-installed during this procedure and the cam timing and ignition timing will be affected in the process.

The radiator will have to be removed as well as the fan drive and fan. The drive sprocket will need to be removed from the crankshaft and the seal carefully pried or pulled out.

While you are in there you might as well replace the camshaft seal as well since it is the same part as the front crankshaft seal. You will also want to replace the timing belt since it will be an oily mess if the front seal is leaking and check the bearing in the timing belt tensioner pulley.

If you have not done this before I would highly recommend buying a service manual or borrowing one from a library and reading that section thoroughly before you start.

Good luck, Lugnut
