Double hoop showbar install?

Hi, My GF is buying a very nice '01 se. That car is too much fun! The question is, She likes the double hoop showbars and I was thinking getting her the bars for Christmas. They are all over ebay and fairly reasonable, but with no instructions. They are bolt on, but are ther any mods that have to be done or is it a straight bolt up. Any installation help would be appreciated. Also, any thoughts on the bars themselves. Pros/Cons. While anything is an improvement, I know that these are NOT roll bars. Thanks, Dave

That sorta depends on how you roll the car. After an easy, slow half-roll that ends upside down, a style bar may keep the car off your head. If the car slides on the bar, it will probably break loose or bend; what happens next is influenced by the direction of the slide.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about the bar smacking my head in a rear-ender. That's a whole lot more likely than a rollover.

Why spend the money for a style bar that will not protect anyone in a rollover, when you can get a double hoop Boss Frog rollbar that looks just as good and *will* protect you in a rollover?

And, depending on the configuration of the seat back, will give your head the same thump as a "style bar". Your chances of being rear-ended are much greater than a roll over. I wouldn't have either a style bar or Boss Frog bar unless I wore a helmet.

here's my 2¢. i looked into this myself and ended up doing nothing... at least my research could help you. this guy sells style bars that look great and bolt on easily.

sells on ebay as well but i don't think there is much of a price difference between his ebay prices and his web site prices.other sellers on ebay will not even respond to you if you ask if installation instructions are included or if it is an easy bolt on type style bar so i would suggest that you avoid those sellers.also, being a style bar it provides no safety if not actually reduces safety as other have mentioned.bars that do provide safety are complicated to install, are expensive, and can interfere with the full recline of the seat and/or the folding of the top. moss sells safety bars and used to include installation instructions on their site (but they don't seem to be working now, perhaps if you email them they will forward you the installation instructions).

are one manufacturer's instructions of the installation

if it just for looks then the short answer is to get the frenzy bar. if it is for safety then consider the cost of installation and shop for a bar that is appropriate for your needs and that not impact the top and seats if that is important to you.good luck.

Thanks for all the good info from everyone. I think I may pass on the style bars. My fear is that it would fold over on top of you in a accident. Thanks again, Daveout...
