Got RADIO!

I said earlier:

Installation is going to be fun, plumbing school dropout and now full > time radio installer cut wires, broke plastic, bent, prodded, > massaged and got the kludge to partially work, he didn't even know > the car has headrest speakers and hadn't hooked them up, now he's > going to try and install a radio in my car. Wanna bet I'll be > watching with an eagle eye?

He came, he installed. This was NOT the plumbing school dropout, this was a VERY conscientious guy who did a truly great job and made a few derogatory comments about the previous installation. I did watch and learned a few things!

All the mess of wires is cleaned up, sorted out, connected properly. The power antenna works, the headrest speakers work and everything is GREAT!

Here's the radio, it's not expensive but it works well and has plenty of power* and all the features that I want. I figure the quality is probably equal or better than the stock radio.

Maybe I'm old school. But I would reject any replacement radio unless it had the green display color, like the rest of the dash, was dull black. I don't want any other color except black, and even shiny black looks funny to me.

I would want something that looked 'original' for two reasons: I like the look better and less attractive to thieves.

Agreed but when the other guy is paying there's very little choice. I already rejected his first radio (no presets) so I'm going to learn to love this one.

I wanted ONLY the original but they cost a fortune *IF* they can be found and the original had a cassette rather than a CD so this works and I'll survive with it. The detachable face plate makes it less attractive to theives but that's pretty immaterial, we're talking about a car that two strong guys can pick up and put in the trunk of a Cadillac so who's going to steal just the radio?

WHAT ? Where are you going to find an Allison " V-16" ??? The Allison aircraft engine was a V-12 and 1710 cu in ! The RR was a 1650 cu in but was still a V-12. ......... or was this just a "flip" remark ?
