JRSC and stock strut tower brace on M2

I have an '02 SE with stock STB and plan to install JRSC, it occurs to me that the stock STB may interfere, perhaps with the air filter arrangement.

Does anyone have experience with the JRSC/Sebring kit on an M2 with the stock Mazda strut-tower brace?

IIRC, the only JR Supercharger + STB option for both M1 and M2 owners is the aftermarket STB that does a bend towards the back of the engine to clear the supercharger. The factory STB is beefier than the aftermarket ones, so I can't see it clearing a JRSC.

Have you done a search on this through the miata.net archives?

I've looked, but I suspect that there aren't too many other people out there with an '02 SE + JRSC since the kit only went on sale a few months ago. Jackson Racking told me, with a fair degree of certainty, that there is *no* STB they know of that fits the JRSC kit on the 2002; the three-point STB they sell, which also attaches to the firewall, does not fit on 2001- M2s because the brake booster is too large.

It's looking like I'll remove the stock STB when installing the JRSC and then investigate a custom modification to the stock STB unless I find a bolt-on first.

If you make a clearance, be sure it is big enough. Put something on the dashpot, chalk maybe, drive around roughly, and see whether any got on the surrounding bar. The engine moves around quite a lot in the engine bay during acceleration and braking.

Right - I expect more movement than I expect :-) So I developed a plan.

I am planning on using some of my son's plastic modeling compound, so that way I could get some idea of the amount of dynamic clearance by examining the "squished" areas. I could even verify where the areas of interference are by using large patches of the stuff at first.

Of course, then I'll need to clean the oily residue off with WD-40 or somesuch... :-)

In other words, good idea.

Most of the JRSCs that I've seen rub on the inside of the hood slightly, which kind of leaves the idea of a STB that goes over the engine out as an option.
