Mystery switch under top bracket?

Hello,

I noticed that there is an electrical contact (pressure switch?) next to the opening for the seat belt on the driver's side. Looks like contact is made (or broken) when the top is down and part of the bracket presses on a rubber button that pushes on a copper piece. Two wires connect to this switch.

Anyone know what this is for? Could it be a safety cut-off if the rear window heater was left on with the top down? Or was there ever a power top option for some models - ridiculous as that may be?

Thanks,

Lower top to arm. Raise to detonate.

Seriously, mine has a connector with two wires (which go to the defroster), but no pressure switch.

Matt,

Thanks!

That means I better not put the top back up...

My first thought was that it was a "top-down" warning light for the Mustang drivers...

I couldn't follow the wires very far, but I think they're too thin for the defroster. But maybe not for a relay that controls it?

I probably could test that when it gets a bit colder?

Yes, it cuts off the rear window defroster when the top is lowered, if you pick up the top off of the switch the power light comes back on and the defroster is powered again. My '99 has one. My wife's '01 doesn't. Her defroster light stays on and the window remains heated unless the defroster switch is turned off manually. Les '99 Blue
