Q: How to Install Keyless Entry

Hello, everyone.

I have a 99 Miata, which isn't equipped with a remote. Funny thing is, when I unlock the driver's door, the passenger's door also unlocks automatically, but not the other way around. I guess the passenger side has an actuator, but not on the driver's side.

Anyhow, a friend of mine recently got me a remote kit "specially designed" for Miata as a gift. It came with a couple of remotes, a receiver, two actuators, some metal thingy, wires, and a bunch of bolts and nuts. I read the instruction manual several times, but since I'm all thumbs when it comes electronical or mechanical devices, I'm afraid I may not be able to put it together correctly.

Would anyone help me with installing this? I live in San Diego area and am willing to travel if it's not too far, say, within 200 miles. Please respond here or send me an email to "solamour at netian.com". Thanks. __ sol

Yes, several Miata models were factory equipped this way. My sons MX6 was that way, the remote kit we installed for it included only one actuator for the drivers door (since the passenger door followed the drivers door anyway). It entailed running a wiring harness from under the dash into the drivers door, and installing the actuator. Not all that difficult if you can follow wiring diagrams.

I live near Toronto... it's a bit too cold to work on a car in my unheated garage, so if you'd like to pay my airfare, I'd be glad to come to San Diego to help you out. I'm pretty much fed up with winter... can't wait to get my 94 BRG out...

Strange. Track day at Barber motorsport was pretty nice. Mid sixtees I would say, and pretty blue skies. Driving to the event yesterday was nice too, very sunny and seventees. Top down all the way, even after sunset. Isn't the average temperature in Ontario only 5 or 10 degrees or so lower than in Alabama?

Leon and Bozo need to pick up some scenic roads on the way back.

Average temp for Toronto area this time of year is 34 daytime and 20 nighttime (and that is Fahrenheit). I suspect we're a tad out of the way when driving from Birmingham Alabama back to Florida, but feel free to drop in if you do drift by this way.
