Stuck throttle?

Searched the archives, didn't see anything that really applied...

The car's a '90 5sp with about 100k on it & in decent mechanical shape.

However... Occasionally, when one has the throttle to the floor for a period of time, after lifting your foot, the pedal remains pinned. It's happened 5-6 times in the last month, and it's not -every- time one floors it.

Stomping on the pedal again will clear things up, with a pronounced 'pop' occuring underhood somewhere. I've liberally doused the linkage & cable in WD40, to no avail.

Granted in a 100hp car, it's more irritating than scary, but I'd like to take care of this... Has anyone heard of this happening? Otherwise, I'll probably start replacing things, starting with the throttle cable itself.

Thanks..

Chris

Otherwise,

Sounds like a rough, frayed or even bent spot on the cable catching on something to me.

Replacing it is probably the best cure.

Hmmmm, that's probably something I should look at on *my* 1990 since she's got nearly 111,000 on her now.

Actually, I remember reading a thread a long time ago that talked about this happening and it was the bottom of the pedal actually getting stuck down in the carpet. Seems like it was something like, it had worn and worn till it actually punctured thru and would then occasionally catch. It was not easily solved as everyone was looking upward at linkages and the like. It's worth checking out.
