B2300 error code 0171

I'm getting an error code 0171 on my 2001 Mazda B2300 pickup, standard transmission, with 53k miles. Code 0171 means the system is too lean. Google turned up several causes, which lead me to several questions.

  1. Dirty Mass Flow Sensor- where is it and how do I clean it?
  2. Dirty Fuel filter- where is it?
  3. Oxygen sensor- where is it and can I check it for an output voltage at a given temperature with a digital VOM?
  4. Vacuum leak downstream of Mass Sensor- where is it most likely to occur?
  5. Faulty fuel pressure regulator. - Where is it and what should the pressure be?

What are the most likely cause and/or the most logical (easiest sequence) to test in?

do a thorough check of all vacuum hoses, anything connected to the intake manifold and plenem makesure it is connected and intact. If nothing found, get some brake clean and spray at the base of the intake manifold if engine rev's up the gasket is gona, spray the hoses and spray antying connected to the manfiold. If nothing found repost and we will go to the next step.

I cleared the code just for the heck of it. It's only been a couple of days driving but so far so good.
