2004 E500 Brake Pump issues? any techs out there

I bought a 2004 E500 4MATIC a few months ago and have been happy other than a few minor issues..

  1. The headlights are not quite straight and have a shorter beam on the drivers side. MB service (2 dealers) have told me that this is normal for the drivers side - weird since none of my other MB' (2000 and 2001 has this).

and more importantly....

  1. The break pump. It is weird that there is noise that come on from it. It almost sounds as if the engines RPM's are racing. Also and worse - when this happens it is as if the brake pedal is fighting me. This is random but happens almost every time I drive now. This was not there or I did not notice it for the first 2 months. I can make it happen by driving stopping and then lifting off the brake pedal and the noise starts the pedal shakes as I press it to brake again. MB says this is NORMAL! What....

Any ideas? or info? Thanks, Steve

In my experience this is normal. I own 2 German cars, a 2001 E-430 and a 2003 BMW. The driver's side have a shorter beam on both cars (and on every loaner car that I have driven in the last 4 years (both makes). The E-430 headlights were calibrated last service, and the driver's side is still shorter. Like I said, in my experience, this is very normal. I would be interested in hearing if this is not correct.

MB headlights in the low beam position don't reach out as far on the driver side as compared to the passenger side. I replaced my Vette's lights with Euro spec Cibie halogens and they do the same thing. They are still much better than US spec lights that were OEM. My E500 has Xenons and they have the exact same pattern as my M3 and the Vette. The hi beams light the world. I call them my retina burners. In day time I have never had anyone not move over to the right lane to let me go by. They are downright obnoxious and I love em.

As for the brakes, they are quirky due to the drive by wire deal but they don't make a pulsation or any sound when applying them. It sounds like it's time to pitch a fit. I have had ABS problems with a 400E a few years ago and eventually caused me to have an accident. I wish that I had gone on a rant then. I knew there was something wrong but they claimed they working correctly. Yea, right into the rear of another car.......Stick to your guns, get them to fix it before they cause you big trouble.

Hope this helps Rob
