E240 Service costs [UK]

My wife's new (to her) W210 Mercedes 2001 E240 Avantgarde Petrol Automatic is due a "B" Service at 50,000 miles.

She has been quoted £470 by a main dealer for the service plus Fuel filter £70 Air filter £40 Brake fluid £70 Spark plugs £200

TOTAL is £850 (not sure if this is + VAT)

I have no knowledge of Mercedes pricing (I'm a BMW M5 and Porsche 911 guy), so can anybody tell me if this is sensible?

Also, do all Mercedes dealers charge the same, or is it worthwhile ringing round for quotes?

Whoa! That is way too expensive... Spark plug is definitely out of the world... I thought these are 100,000 miles plugs. Surely you can change air filter yourself.

If you are handy on car, you can do most of the service B yourself... there is not much to it. Fuel filter and flush brake fluid can be done at your independent shop.

Resetting that service indicator is easy too... read your owner's manual on this.

This is way out of line, with a 5 year old vehicle I'd not bother the main dealer, I'd find a good recommended non franchised specialist to do the work for you. You'll probably get a better service to boot.

My C class had service A yesterday and it was £220 including VAT. I don't know what service B would cost.
