Looks a lot nicer than the old one.

BUT no upright star on the bonnet :-(

Like other "L" models, there is no hood ornament. Of course if you must have one, it's a simple addition, but it looks silly with a star on the grill and the hood, so it would be recommended to replace the grill, too.

Really? How?

In general, all 'sporty' models now come without the upright star. My W208 CLK Cab is the last of the standing-star breed, for example.

As there are a variety of reasons why people may not wish to have the upright star (incl theft) I feel it would be a nice thing if Merc could design its bonnets such that that the upright star could be offered as an option, at least for some models. This includes optional removal from 'regular' saloons, of course.

Basically, all the "L" models (L="Leicht" = light = sporty), which currently include the SL, SLK, CL, CLK, and ML, lack the hood-mounted star. There are, of course some exceptions. The G does not have a hood-mounted star, but that would likely be because it could be damaged while driving off-road. The C-Class coupe also does not have a hood-mounted star, but then again, none of the coupes do. The new R-Class will likely not have a hood-mounted star, but then again, its original concept was as a Gran

*Sport* Tourer. The same will hold for the B-Class (Compact *Sport* Tourer). Basically, the only vehicles that now have hood-mounted stars are the four-door sedans; everything else is consider a sporty model and the hood-mounted star would not fit in its design.

Quite so. A-Class also has no standing star, but then the bonnet slopes rather steeply.
