My 2002 ML320 dumped its tranmission oil where the hose connects to the Radiator.
I just had the dealer perform the 60K service, and thought he might have forgotten to tighten the hose clamp.
My wife drove the car at less then 20 mph for no more then 150 feet after the hose blew off, then the ML stopped and shutdown. It happened right after she left a parking spot in the mall. There was no sign of previous oil leakage prior to the hose popping off.
I assume the computer shut everything down after sensing loss of oil pressure, but that's only MY assumption.
I would have refilled the oil and checked everything out...but Mercedes in their infinite wisdom does not furnish a fill connection beneath the hood.
Question:
Is the transmission destroyed? I restarted the ML 30 mins later and there was still oil in the tranny and the vehicle made no strange noises.
How do you add oil to the transmission? And how do you determine the ammount....is there some plug you remove until oil runs out, when adding oil?
Thanks!
