I have a 1979 MB 240d. The door label says use 14 in tires.
The rims are 15 in. I guess someone put MB mag rims on the car.
So what size tires should I use. The ones on the car are 195 r60 15.

Original Tire size is 175/80R14 which no one makes anymore.
Acceptable tire size for 14" wheels are...
185/75R14 195/70R14For 15" wheels,
195/65R15 215/60R15For 16" wheel
205/55R16 215/55R16 225/50R16 Wow! This is really fat tire for 240D...I suggest you use 195/65R15 for economy purpose... in tire and car's aerodymanic impact of tires... the wider the tire you go.... the harder on car... slightly less fuel mileage.
W123 chassis can accept all wheels from W126 cars... the S class of
1981-1991... with no problem... they are correct offset and fit perfect. Which is why you have 15" wheels.
Right.
Wrong.
Wrong: E. g. 205/70 VR14 from 380SE are NOT ok for W123.
Juergen
I meant the wheels... rims... not that rubber tires which are totally different diameter/sizes.
Stock size for a 123 Chassis was, well, pathetic. 205/60-15 is right,
195/60-15 won't kill you.I got 195 r60 15 s.
The 205 was too big.
thanks j.
