Want to Convert 1997 300D to Waste Vegetable Oil

I would like to convert my 1997 300D to run on WVO. Has anyone done it themselves and if so, what is a good resource for guidance and parts?

Thanks!

dont know much about this either but, as i understand it, you have to start the engine with dino or bio and then , once it's running, switch over to just wvo.

Is this a 1997 300D or 1977 300D? If it's a 1997 you best find out if your fuel system can handle wvo.

They can handle it... just the CDI engine requires specialist to install it for you.

I've seen a few websites (vendors) on the topic such as

(they don't answer their phone) and

The kits seem to be running around $1000 and installation by a mechanic running about $1000 U.S.D. I was wondering if the conversion can be done in pieces rather than having to buy a kit and hiring a mechanic.

You can make your own kit...it would be cheaper. You just need to know the mechanic of the system to properly install them.

Mechanic charges around $500 or so to install... not $1000. It is not that complicated to install them.

I like this system... it will automatically switch over to WVO when it reaches certain temperature.

They also have a forum where people tells how they build their own kit... it is in the "Hack It" part of forum,

I wouldn't do any hacking with a '97, '77 yes,

Thanks for the site. It was very informative and helpful. Did you convert your own MB diesel?

Not yet... need to save up money to do so.

Well I think that I will be converting the main tank to veg oil and having the secondary tank (5 gallons) in the trunk to start and purge with diesel. I'll start a diary when I actually get going on this project, perhaps in the next 30 days. Wish me luck!

Good luck and let me know how it comes out.

Yeah the price of saving money is a tad high. I know people that just add the waste oil to their tanks ands be done with it.

Well it does come down to investment and reward. It seems at first, you have to put about $1000 into the car and driving what I normally drive, my return on investment would take about 5-6 months of driving on WVO.
