Offhand I would have to opine 'no' but what you must do is discover the wheel's 'offset' which is the distance (along the wheel's axis) between the plane of the wheel's hub (where it meets the brake rotor) & the midpoint between the inner & outer tire-mounting beads of the wheel's rim. Indeed offset can be either positive or negative, if the hub-face is closer to the outer or inner rim surface.

Which you can measure it w/ the un-mounted wheel face-down, place a rigid something across the rim & measure from the face of the something straight down to the flat interior face of the hub. Subtract this number from one-half the depth of the wheel across the outside of the tire-mounting beads.

Compare the M3 wheel's offset to that of your current mini wheels.

In general iirc front-drive cars have v. different (larger, more positive) offsets than rear-drive cars, due to amount of mechanical stuff crammed into front hubs (CV driveshaft joint, brake rotor, steering).

Offset will determine the 'track' of the car, if radically different it will change the handling characteristics as well as the amount of stress transmitted to the suspension mounts. Too much additional offset also determines how much the wheels will rub the fender lips :) In general, a good wheel choice will slightly decrease the track, If you are getting into 18" for to increase your cornering ability I'd recommend a front stress bar as well to keep the body-frame suspension mounts more rigid.

If the wheels fit, wear 'em, I think they'd look _real sharp_ on a mini.

OT - are you into Iain M. Banks at all, in addition to Gibson?
