Will Mini offer MP3 audio?

I expect to buy a Mini somewhere around early '04, but I really want an MP3 CD player. Although all I have done is check the MiniUSA.com web site and some info I picked up at a dealer, from what I can tell an MP3 player is not offered (please let me know if I am wrong). Anyone know if MP3 CD compatibility is in the works?

Thanks in advance parkerea

It's been rumoured for sometime, but who knows?! It's easy enough to put in your own MP3 head unit / changer though.

I have been weighing up between the iPod and the Dension HDD based player

. I have my MC coming atthe end of the month and it looks like the Dension will be the one. You getto keep the original head unit and don't loose the sterring wheel controls(which I opted for)

Don't seem to be able to work out if you loose the steering wheel controls with the iPod.

I'm sure there is a thread on

somewhere showcasing a new device that will allow the ipod to be controlled by the MFSW.

I put an Alpine CHA-S634 changer in my MINI (had to use Ventura Technology Changer Interface and an Alpine conversion cable) and I can play MP3's thru the MINI (not HK- I do not know if HK would work) head. I now have 6 CD's in my car with about 130 songs on each CD. The Alpine changer works with the steering wheel controls. The song title does not show on the head - it could be a showstopper for some. It will play the songs sequentially or randomly within a CD. In Sequential mode I can play the last song or the next song from the steering wheel as well as the head unit but in random mode I can only play the next song but not the previous song from either the steering wheel or head unit. I also have the Nav unit in my car and the Nav unit works with the MP3's like it does with music CD's

Not the perfect solution but it is a workable alternative.

I use an Archos Jukebox Harddrive 20 GB through the aux port. Problem solved and files backed up and transferred computer to computer to boot. Its abit bigger than a pack of cigarettes and is portable and rechargeable. Works great through the HK Head Unit. Total price of solution - less than $200.00 U.S. including install of the aux port.

I have the same changer (with the Blitzsafe adapter) and love it! The sound is nothing short of fantastic. Solution for the lack of song titles is printing out a list of what's on each CD in Winamp before installing the disc in the changer, putting it in a binder that stays in the auto and then just look it up by number!

It's a piece of cake to install (just call Crutchfield for all of the pieces and cables).

I also have an Ipod, and occasionally hook it up in the Mini, but opted to keep 800-900 songs installed in the changer at all times.

Cheers Mini Fans!
