Dead Electrics

Hi, my girlfriend's having some problems with the electrics in her '95 1275 , it was fine when it was last parked up (saturday) but this morning (Tuesday) there was nothing at all when the key is turned. Nothing lights up on the dashboard, and nothing inside the car works, However the headlights are working. This is the only thing i can find that works. I've checked the charge at the battery, and also put the jump leads on it from my 4x4, so i know its not a flat battery. I've found there's a charge coming through to the starter, but i cant follow where anything goes after that.

Also, i've read on a few forums about the fuses fastned to the bulkhead getting corroded. I've tried the multimeter on each terminal but there's no charge to any of them. I'm not sure if they would only get this after the ignition block, or before.

I'd be really appreciative of your thoughts!!!

I believe there's a cut-out switch on injection Mini's, it's situated to the back right hand side of the engine, it's a black button or something? Anyway have you tried pressing this? Also what state is the actual battery earth lead in? Also check the battery terminals are making good contact. Oh and is the earth lead attached to the engine with the engine stabiliser bar on the left of the engine block, is it still attached? Other than this, have you got homestart with the AA or RAC?

Sounds like a dodgy connection on the solenoid if your lights are still working, give the leads a good cleanup around the starter and solenoid region, that should do the trick! You have checked that there isn't an immobiliser causing you grief? I had a mini do the same thing whilst driving along, everything went dead except the headlights, not fun at 60mph on a dark country lane! it was the battery lead on the solenoid that did it!

Have fun!
