Removing fly wheel ?

Hi .. I have a bit of a problem .. I need to remove the flywheel etc ... but dont have a puller ... the last time I removed it by turning it and hitting via the stater motor hole with a copper punch .. until it came loose ... but the engen wont turn more than 15 degrees .... i suspest broken timing chain and or valve and are broken cam shaft :-( ... (i come to the because the rockers dont move at all when i turn the fly wheel. It also turns more freely than normal ..)... Or does any one have a daigram for the puller so I can make on ....

Thanks in advance..

Seriously you'd be a LOT better off just parting with £15 and buying a puller from your local motorfactors or if it comes to it halfords ! Bashing the flywheel even with copper is likely to shatter the thing or at worst put hairline fractures in it so the thing will shatter itself while you're driving it involving VAST expense ! Oh and if it doesn't come off easily WITH a puller, just put a kettle full of hotwater over the centre if the flywheel and try again, as I'm sure you remember the second law of thermodynamics points to expansion of the flywheel when hot water is put over it making it easier to remove HTH Jim

the pound to rand makes the cost a bit steep ... R 150 plus ship plus import tax when it land, if it does ... That why I would rather make on if i can. also dont have 2 weeks to wait for it ... but thanks for the host water tip .. will take note ...

Yep, should have realised you were in South Africa by some of your previous posts. Anyway if you have a look at the link Fitzy posted I'm sure you'll be able to fabricate something similar, it's just a matter of getting the right length and thread on the bolts. Even with the correct flywheel puller, pouring hot water over the flywheel can still help a lot !

You probably know these people anyway

if you don't they may be able to help you trace a puller HTH Jim

When I had a troublesome flywheel to remove I used a plumbers gas torch to help the flywheel off. Heat around the centre for a couple of minutes then sharp but light taps through the starter hole got it off for me. I re-lapped the flywheel onto the crank using the fine valve seat paste
