2003 Eclipse GT Interior Fan Noise

Hi folks,

I've had a problem with my 03 Eclipse GT since I got it, but now it seems to be getting worse. When I have the interior fan on "1" it makes a little "woop-woop-woop" sound like it is a bad bearing in the fan or something. Doesn't matter if it is on heat, or AC or which vent is used, it's the same sound all the time. I used to ignore it, because when I put it on the "2" speed setting, it goes away. Well, now the sound is there in the "2" setting, and I can't use the next setting all the time, it's way too loud. So I need to find a fix here.

I've been reluctant to bring it to the dealer, I can imagine them having to rip apart the dash and charge me a load of cash to fix a little sound.... but it is annoying to the point of actually paying for it.

Any ideas about if the fan itself is accessable? I mean, I'd like to give it a crack at fixing it myself, before I bring it in. Any help or advice would be appreciated,

thanks,

john

If you have a 2003 you should still be under the 3/36 bumper to bumper and that ought to take care of it at zero expense to you. If you are past that, well, you drive to damned much! Seriously, it ought to be covered. Most common cause is actually getting a leaf or something in there and it sticks and rubs right on the very edge of the fan. It may actually be the fan itself. Never know until you go in there.

You said it, I do drive too much! I have about 55k on it already, and it has been great, I love it, but now I'm starting to get little creaks and moans from it. I usually ignore such things, but the squeaky fan is just the right "fingernails on a blackboard" sound to make me wince...

I thought about the leaf possibility, too, but I've stuck wires in and turned the fan on and off a million times, changed speeds... but I am pretty sure its the fan itself. Drat...

Thanks for the reply!
