eclipse 95 has problems with transmission

I absolutely know nothing about cars. I recently bought 95 eclipse(125 k miles). But this car is giving me two problems.

1) The steering wobbles. Most probably i need to realign wheels(?) 2) Recently i went on long drive like 30 miles and it suddenly stopped when i slowed down. I waited a moment, and started the car and it ran fine. Is it transmission problem?

I appreciate if anyone can shed some light on these problems. I dont want to use this car for long drives. I just want to use it for commute to work and give it to my wife later. The point is i want to spend less money as possible.

You'll definitely need to something provide more descriptive before I'd even venture a guess since it is totally unclear to me what you are experiencing from your post.

1) wobbling steering is either a) tie rod ends and/or b) ball joints and/or c) axle inner CV joints, and/or d) wheel balance. e) if the wobble occurs only on braking, you need new front rotors. 2) Could be low coolant level in the radiator. Check when the engine is COLD. Could be the air idle speed adjustor on the throttle body or crud build up in the throttle body. Its unlikely to be any sort of transmission issue.

Take it to an import garage that handles Mitsubishi (look in the Yellow Pages) and get the front wheels balanced to start with. Have them check a, b and c. Don't get sucked into a wheel alignment just yet. At 125K only even for a 95, you may need one or two tie rod ends, but all the rest may be OK. Have them check the rad levels, idle speed and timing. If your car is automatic, have the transmission flushed.

Then see how it runs.

Check the recalls. The 2G has a ball joint recall out.
