Eclipse Convertible

I am trying to decide between buying a new G6 convert. or an Eclipse convert.

I would like opinions on the Eclipse from those of you that have one, hopefully someone that has put some significant mileage on so as to get more than just an indicial impression of the car.

Thanks Double Tap

I'm sorry that I can't meet your request for someone that has put some significant mileage on but would still like to offer my opinion.

I looked at the G6 before I decided to buy my Eclipse Spyder. The G6 was fun to drive but had a very small trunk and absolutely no trunk when the top is down. When I was looking, my big requirement was that the car would hold 2 sets of golf clubs. To my surprise, the Eclipse met that requirement.

As far as being fun to drive, the G6 cannot compare to the Eclipse.

I drive a 2G eclipse and like the way it handles better than the 4G that I test drove, but that is personal opinion.

I wish Mitsubishi would put the Lancer EVO engine and AWD under the new Eclipse - then they would have a car!!!!

As far as looks - G6 vs. Eclipse the Eclipse wins hands down.

My son works in the parts department of a Saturn dealership. Up until recently GM had been using Saab parts in some of their cars, and those cars were having lots of problems (just like a Saab). You might ask in a nonchalant way if the G6 contains any Saab parts. If it does, run away screaming!

GM is now starting to use Opel parts, and are marketing Opel cars as Saturns (the Sky is an Opel GT). That seems to have solved a lot of problems. I own a '94 Eclipse, and generally tend to favor Mitsubishi over GM. I also have a '98 Dodge Stratus ES with the Mitsubishi 2.5L V6. It has over 136,000 miles on it, still runs great and gets me over 31 MPG on the highway (so far the best car I have ever owned). My wife has a 2007 Saturn Sky. Though the gas mileage is disappointing (21 MPG city/rural), it is fun to drive.

I just bought an '07 Eclipse Spyder in March and it is a great car. My only complaint is the lack of visibility out of the back of the car with the top up. Blinds spots are huge and you have to use your mirrors to compensate. I'm used to just looking and I can't see that well since the rear window is small. Using the rear window at all is useless at night when the window is wet from the rain.

Gas mileage is average: 22MPG (rated for 17C/26H). I don't think it's that bad since I got the GT. I looked at the G6 but I wanted a sporty looking car and I don't recall if the G6 has an automatic top but I ruled out a lot of convertibles, including the Saturn Sky, because their tops were manual.

Trunk space is okay in the Spyder. I can load it up with groceries just fine. I don't golf but people say you can fit 2 sets of golf clubs in the trunk...if that is possible then there can't be any chance of anything else fitting.

I have about 2500 miles on my car so I haven't had to do any major maintenance yet but I think I got a pretty good feel for the car to give a review of it. Hope that helps.
