harsh upshift because of broken torque converter ?

Last months I noticed a hard upshift of my automatic transmission between 3rd and 4th gear, especially after having driven a long time in 4th gear (f.e. driving on highways, slowing down to leave the highway and then again accelerating). Only between 3rd and 4th gear.

Last week my torque converter totally crashed, so no changing gears at all anymore (we have taken the gearbox + torque converter out and the converter itself has gone indeed). But now we would like to solve the problem of the hard upshifting, so we have taken the gearbox to a gearbox specialist but he can't find anything inside the gearbox itself.

Could a faulty/broken torque converter cause such problems? By the way, it's a 1998 Mitsu Galant V6-24.

Anny comments greatly appreciated!
