Hesitating /stumbling Eclipse (01 Sporty Auto)

My gf's Eclipse 2.4l with the sport auto tranny has 90k on it, and recently started stumbling when you punch the gas from a dead stop. As well, she claims it will also stumble/hesistate some when shifting from Rev-1st and 1st-Rev. She says it's worst when her A/C is on, and isn't bad if she doesn't get heavy into the throttle from a dead stop. I replaced the air filter, tranny fluid to Redline C+ with no change in symptoms, and we got a CEL for one day but disappeared yesterday. I'm going to get the code pulled tomorrow when I can borrow the car to go to Autozone. Without getting deep into this, I suspect two things:

1) Transmission trouble. I noticed that the fluid level was low when I changed it, and some fluid had leaked at the filler hole over the front and bottom of the tranny case. Considering most of her miles are highway, this is concerning. I get no blinking N light, which the factory manual suggests will happen if there is a code logged by the PCM.

2) MAF, dirty throttle body, TPS, etc going a little wacky. Would the PCV also have something to do with this? (I have a replacement ready to go).

I would appreciate any suggestions as where to look first and what common issues are. Unfortunately my searches of

yielded crap.

Thanks for the overwhelming rush of support.

It turned out to be a shorting spark plug boot - $30 at Autozone fixed it. The code, predictably, was 0304 Cylinder 4 misfire.
