Memories of (Mitsubishi) days long gone

I've lived in Canada since 1989 but grew up in Sydney, Australia. Last night I was trolling around YouTube and found some club level motor sport video from 1982, at Amaroo Park, a now closed motor sport facility west of Sydney.

I was looking at the various Datsun 1600's and Mazda rotary rally cars, recalling what fun it was, and there at 1:50 into the video, was a yellow

1970 Galant. "Oh, look", thinks I, "a Galant like the one I had."

Then I realized it WAS the one I had, and it was me driving it with my navigator buddy, 28 years ago.

I built this lovely little rally car with a 1750cc SOHC 4G31 Saturn engine, #5 works cam and twin 45mm DCOE Webers (about 160hp) , 5 speed Mitsu Scorpion gearbox, 4.625 diff and trailing arms to stop the axle tramp. It was a joy to drive and would easily pull 7000 rpm is every gear. The power band was around 3500-7500 and the song of the Webers' intake roar was sheer music.

Several years later I got T-boned at a highway intersection 2 blocks from home by an inattentive driver who missed the red light.
