Montero Sport

I have been a toyota owner for 10 years and am looking to purchase a new SUV. I am considering the Montero Sport in this decision and would like to hear from Sport owners about their likes/dislikes as well as any obvious problems I should be looking for. I don't want to buy brand new but something in the 2000-2002 range with low miles. I am not the suburan SUV owner as I will use this for some light offroading and will definately be used to get me to the mountains in both summer and winter conditions.

Thanks for any input.

Another option would be to step up just a bit to the Montero Sport XLS or Limited which come with the 3.5 liter motor that was usedin the full-sized Montero. Lot more torque and gives up about 1mpg to the

3.0.

I own a 2000 sport. I love it. 2 things to look out for - sloppy shifting under stress conditions (A/C on). Not a real issue if you don't abuse it. Also, not a lot of travel in the suspension with a load it it. Hope this helps.

My wife and I just bought a 2000 Montero Sport LTD. We love it!!!! You can't go wrong with it, but just get an insurance quote first as we found it to be the second most expensive to insure. (Believe it or not, the KIA Sorrento was the most expensive!!)

How much are you paying? I live in Nevada which apparently has some of the the highest insurance rates in the country. I have a full size 2002 Montero Limited that I bought new just over a year ago and bounce all over the southwest desert. I have full coverage including $1,000,000.00 liability, full replacement value, auto club and car rentals etc, etc.We wrote off a vehicle in an accident 18 months ago including a payment to the other driver for $3,500.00 from our insurance company. It happened in Canada and the insurance compnay wasn't able to bring the wreck back into the U.S. The adjuster told me that they took a bath on the sellable parts as a result. However, with all of that seemingly against me my last insurance payment for

6 months was $474.20. I don't think that's bad at all.

Well here in NY We are paying somwhere between $1400 and $1600 per 6 months. Her Camaro Convertible is less. :)

I'd second that suggestion to check insurance rates first. My used Montero was considerably more to insure than the Jeep it replaced.

I was told the Montero is Group 23 out of a possible 24. The JGC was a mere group 12....
